WEEK ONE 04.03.08

What is information Design? Information Design is the organization and the clarity of information being displayed. The psychological aspects of design play hugely in this section of Information Design.

Understanding thinking behind the Design. In this weeks example we looked at a common Design Element that is used in the Common Elevator. We compared ideas about how these buttons are used, and resolved that a reDesign could be rewarding for the Rider.

example01

My first attempt was to create a graphical representation of the actions being called for each button. My natural instinct would to draw doors opening and closing. I think though this complicated in that the viewer has to review each graphic. Plus for traditional Elevator riders, they would have to learn these new symbols, and since most elevators keep traditional open and close buttons. I think that any elevator with a new style button would confuse the rider.

I kept the traditional Design elements for the redesign because I think this is so common and widely used that it has almost branded the symbols.
