Project Proposal
Content:
"Don't act a fool in the TL while drinking your juice in the hood"
Project Scope:
I was approached by a client, interested in creating a movie spoof on the popular classic, "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood" Compelled on such an interesting movie idea, I said "yes." After Screening the film several times, I was given my assignment. I have 3 weeks to create a DVD interface for the movie. I'm supplied with very few assets, but am sure I can do it. The clients requests, are to try to get enough of the movies feel in the interface. The use of bright colors and with a supply of photos, I should be able to compose my art to convey the movies general look and feel. The client also requested a stand in audio track, also sound effects for each roll over. The interface should have enough interactivity to hook the viewer, also to get them to explore the special features.
Navigation:
- Play Movie
- Scene Selection
- Sub Titles
- Special Features
- Interactive Page
Design Elements:
- Hood Images and bright colors, to convey the movies sense of style.
- Roll Over effects, packaged with animation, and sounds.
- Very Interactive, give the feel of being in the movie.
- Show Images to convey location (filmed on location
RESEARCH FINDINGS
Movie Titles:
- Transformers
- Iron Man
- Labyrinth
- Happy Feet
After viewing the listed interfaces, my creative juices started flowing. I noticed the selection of movies I viewed were heavy in CG. Most of the interfaces had allot of CG effects for transitions, when making a selection. The navigation on the movies all stayed the same for the most part. I noticed though, for Iron Man and Transformer, the special features section of the DVD was actually located on a separate DVD. As for Labyrinth and Happy Feet, the special features were included. Of my 4 choices, the Labyrinth movie had the ugliest of the DVD menus. I think is because of the actual date of the movie, and the fact that it was originally released on VHS, so converting it to DVD probably wasn't as important as some of the higher budget movies.
Out of the four, my favorite was probably Happy Feet. The menus type treatment, and the subtle animations, made for an environmental type of interface. I didn't feel as if I were actually viewing an interface, rather than a very interactive page.
Key Elements in Research:
- Very Video Heavy Interface
- Imagery placed to fill space
- Rollovers basic, with minimal or no animation
- No sound on rollovers
- Allot of 3D CG interface effects
- Entire interface depends on navigation
