Mission Statement

Once we finalize a mission statement, this would be a good place to a brief summary of what swap is.

Organization

Welcome to the temporary SWAP homepage. This page has three purposes. First, it is a placeholder for the SWAP website as we start the development progress. Second, this page will be used to help organize the site development. Third, all the CSS tags have been build into the html of this page, so anyone can start work on building a custom CSS for the sites to make it look however they way.

.....

Place Holder

We are still trying to find a SWAP web hosting server for the SWAP page. The school is in discussion regarding providing all clubs web space. We are also talking with Lexi, the WDIM department head, about a temporary space. And if worse comes to work, SWAP can always get it's own webspace.

Once we have a webspace, we can put the URL here. (current not linked)

Website Organization

This is just a start page. We hope to build out multiple pages to the SWAP website with cool features. We can keep track of who is working on what teams/pages here. As well as keep a list of possible pages what we'd like to create.

Here is a list of possible pages we are thinking about.

  • Main News Page

    - This page would have a brief introduction to swap, links to other pages and resources, and news updates in a blog style format. This page should also have information about where and when the club meets, and of course the club logo or other images.
  • About Page

    - A simple page with more information about the club such as current officers and other generic information. This page would be mostly static, but it is important that it is very easy to update.
  • Links Page

    - Initially this page could be a simple static list of cool web links. However ideally this page could turn into a social linking page where members could post there own favorit links (with descriptions and/or images) into categories, and others could rate the coolness or usefulness of the links.
  • Membership Page

    - A place that list current and past members, and perhaps a bit of information about each. It would be a way for members to easy get in contact with one another, and to post links to their latest work. Ideally this page would allow members to update their own information.
  • Articles Page

    - (lower priority) A place for members to post interesting articles they've written such as tutorials, reviews or interviews. A blog format might be the best way to go here as well.
  • Events Page

    - (lower priority) A calendar style page for listing SWAP related events. Not that we have that many, but it might be cool none the less as SWAP begins to grow.
  • Jobs Posting Page

    - (lower priority) There always seems to be requests by people needing web help. It would be cool to have some central location for posting all this stuff. Any have suggestions on the best way to do this?
  • Did I miss anything? Do you have other ideas of things you'd like to contribute? Let us know...

CSS SWAP Garden

The html for this page was patterned off of a site called CSS Zen Garden. One of the core ideas behind the design of this SWAP site is that any member can contribute by creating their own design for the site. Through the magic of CSS, every person can come up with their own visual design for the site without needing to worry about any of the posted context. The CSS Zen Garden site is an excellent example of this. Hundreds of people have redesigned the site simply by customizing a CSS page, even though the content for the site stays the same between all the pages. It is worth checking out if you want to learn anything about web design.

Thus, each time someone visits our SWAP website, a random student design could be presented, as well as links to seeing other designs. Just think, you can make the site look however you want (within reason), and you don't have to worry about a commity of people trying to decide what looks best.

Questions, ideas, feedback?

let us know if you'd like to help. Nothing is set in stone and everything is open to change. What do you think should be on the SWAP site?
